Dow P&SP has partnered with Syntegon Technology India (formerly known as Bosch Packaging Technology) to offer fully recyclable pillow pouch packaging in India. Syntegon’s vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) packaging machines are capable of successfully handling award winning INNATE™ TF Polyethylene Resins for Tenter Frame Biaxial Orientation (TF-BOPE) to produce fully recyclable pillow pouches..

The 1kg capacity all-polyethylene (PE) pillow pouch is designed with INNATE TF films and is
made using Syntegon’s latest high-speed intermittent motion VFFS line, SVI 2600 and SVZ
1803AR. Both machines are equipped with PHS 2.0 sealing options and can produce 60
pouches per minute (p/min). This is a significant improvement compared to the current rate of 45 p/min for all PE pouches, and a timely response to an industry urgently looking for high performance mono-material packaging with a better environmental footprint for the India market. This initiative is aligned with Dow’s
sustainability target to close the loop by enabling 100% of Dow products sold into packaging applications to be reusable or recyclable by 2035.

“Plastic waste is one of the most important and pressing sustainability issues of our time.
Through this collaboration, we reiterate our commitment to designing products like INNATE
TF resins that will enable a circular economy while increasing our impact through partnerships to end plastic waste in the environment. We are proud and excited to work with like-minded partners like Syntegon to offer better and more sustainable packaging options to India, and to help reduce the amount of plastics waste entering the environment,” said Vipul Babu,
commercial director for India subcontinent, Dow P&SP. Mr. Nilesh Vedak, MD Syntegon Technology India said, “At Syntegon, we offer intelligent and sustainable solutions to our customers which are environmentally friendly and improve their product quality. We are happy to work with reliable partners like Dow P&SP to offer sustainable packaging solutions to our customers.” Chandra Prasad, executive director of Syntegon India also commented, “At Syntegon we offer proven solutions in partnership with material suppliers like Dow P&SP ensuring sustainability
without compromise – maintaining bag quality, production speed and right barrier to ensure shelf life.”

The future of sustainable packaging
Compared to traditional polyethylene (PE) films, the TF-BOPE film made with INNATE™ TF
Polyethylene Resins for Tenter Frame Biaxial Orientation has higher mechanical properties
and material rigidity, better optical and printing performance, and offers considerable
sustainability advantages, including the potential for all-PE structures for recyclability.
Films made using INNATE™ TF resins demonstrate many impressive properties including:
Excellent aesthetics, printability and optical properties as transparency and glossiness
Up to 80% less haze compared to traditional PE films
2X impact strength and tensile modulus
3X puncture resistance and tensile strength of traditional blown PE films
Excellent flex crack resistance, even under low temperature
Good tear ability for convenience-in-use
This is P&SP’s second successful collaboration with Syntegon, following the launch of its all
PE laminate made using INNATE™ and RETAIN™ resins for the flexible packaging market in
India in 2016.
