Airnov Demonstrates Sustainability Credentials With ISCC PLUS Certification at Its Romorantin Plant

  • International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification is an important step towards the circular economy
  • Availability of renewable feedstock at Romorantin facility helped it to receive certification in October 2022
  • Development of more circular products is a key strategic priority for Airnov and forms a critical component of its ESG commitments

Airnov Healthcare Packaging, a global leader in controlled atmosphere packaging, has announced a key breakthrough in its sustainability journey after its plant in Romorantin, France, obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification.

As one of the world’s most recognizable sustainability certification schemes, ISCC’s mission is to support the shift towards a more circular economy. The ISCC PLUS certificate guarantees that end-products contribute to this approach by using renewable feedstock.

The certification also provides a guarantee to customers on traceability. Thanks to Airnov’s ISCC mass balance approach, bio-circular feedstock can be mixed with virgin materials in a certifiable process that is fully traceable and credible.

“Achieving ISCC PLUS underlines Airnov’s commitment to providing responsible and sustainable solutions for our customers,” commented Yann Magis, Romorantin Site Manager at Airnov. “We constantly strive to create processes that add value to products, improve customer and employee experiences, and reduce our impact on the environment.”

“That means introducing more circularity into the way we work – our site at Romorantin is a flagship example of how this can be enacted and will serve to inspire further developments in the future.”

Crucially, the incorporation of renewable feedstock does not alter performance metrics, the products maintaining the same technical specifications and regulatory compliance. These include a series of standard products, including capsules, tubes and stoppers, all of which can be produced under the ISCC certification.

Customers will be able to contact Airnov to verify whether the product they are interested in purchasing is ISCC certified.

“What we are seeing is a trend towards customers demanding solutions that help them to reduce their carbon footprints,” added Mélissa Plantier, Product Manager at Airnov. “They want to be more responsible in their manufacturing processes, and some are looking to become carbon neutral in the not-too-distant future.”

“This naturally leads to more customers asking Airnov about how we manage our company, because they want more responsible partners in their supply chains.”

Indeed, the ISCC PLUS certification is the latest in a series of recent sustainability initiatives completed by the company, which continues to develop and enact a range of actions to reduce its environmental footprint. These include measuring carbon footprints, as well as various energy and waste reduction schemes.
